The Friends of the Pikes Peak Library District will host its annual Literary Awards Luncheon at noon on Saturday, April 21, at the Antlers Hotel. Cost for the luncheon is $40 per person, or $300 for a table of eight. Proceeds from the event will benefit Friends, who support library programs. The Frank Waters Award winner for 2018 and keynote speaker is Mary Taylor Young, author of more than 15 books on the nature of Colorado including “Rocky Mountain National Park: The First 100 Years.” The Golden Quill winner is Kathleen Esmiol, who wrote “Everybody Welcome,” the biography of local icon Fannie Mae Duncan. The Falcon Wanderers Volksmarch Club invites you to participate in our Earth Day Walk on Saturday, April 21, 2018. Come join us for some fun, fitness, and friendship at this non-competitive walking event. The walk is free and open to the public. The walk begins and ends at the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center located at 1805 N. 30th Street. The 5 & 10 kilometer routes will include trails within the park and are rated 2B (moderate walk) . Strollers can complete the courses. Wheelchairs are not advised. Walk start times are between 9:00am to 12:30pm. Everyone walks at their own pace, but please plan on finishing your walk by 3:30pm. Please, leashed pets only and no pets inside the Visitor and Nature Center or the Trading Post buildings. Restrooms are available at the start/finish.
