Itinerary for Holiday Vacation Alaska 2015: July 21-August 2, 2015
Day 1 : Fly to Seattle
We have accommodations in suburban Seattle this evening before embarking on our journey.
Day 2 : Vancouver/ Embark the ms Volendam
After breakfast, we drive north to the vibrant port city of Vancouver. The city’s setting is spectacular, nestled between mountains and ocean. We board the ms Volendam, a mid-sized 1400-passenger ship, for our 3-night cruise into the spectacular Inside Passage. B,L,D
Day 3 : Cruise the Inside Passage
Snow-capped mountains, lush forest, and hundreds of islands and coastal inlets mark our progress through an astonishing fjord-like waterway today. We trace Canada’s Pacific Coast and Southeastern Alaska, seeing firsthand how this vital ocean route still links communities today. As we cruise, enjoy the many shipboard activities; delightful shows, music, and dancing light up the evening. B,L,D
Day 4 : Discover Juneau
Today, we call on Alaska’s capital, Juneau. It is the second largest capital in the U.S. by area, but can only be reached by air or water. Its natural setting between the waters of Gastineau Channel and coastal mountains and forest make it one of the most stunning capitals. There’s time here to sightsee and shop on our own or with an optional excursion offered by Holland America. B,L,D
Day 5 : Enjoy a Scenic Train Ride
After breakfast on board, we disembark in Skagway. Here, we board the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway for an exciting narrow-gauge train ride along the path of the legendary Klondike Goldseekers. We pass incredible panoramas of glaciers, mountains and waterfalls. Later, we arrive in Whitehorse. B,L
Day 6 : Travel the Alaska Highway
The Alaska Highway was constructed during World War II as a military route linking Alaska with the lower 48 states. Tonight’s comfortable accommodations are at the Golden Bear Motel in Tok. Originating as an Alaska Road Commission camp in the 1940’s, Tok is considered the “Sled Dog Capital of Alaska.” D
Day 7 : Explore Alaska's Interior
En route to Fairbanks, we pass through Delta Junction, an inland delta where the Delta and Tanana rivers meet and feed Alaska’s largest agricultural area. Along the way, we’ll relive childhood dreams at the Santa Claus House in the town of North Pole. Later, the Museum of the North reveals the region’s rich culture with unique exhibits. Tonight, we head out for dinner and a show, Alaska style! After a delicious meal at the authentic Alaska Salmon Bake, delight at the The Golden Heart Revue!, a comical look at the colorful characters from early and present day Fairbanks. B,D
Day 8 : Strike Gold in Fairbanks
Get an insider’s glimpse of Fairbanks today, as we board the Riverboat Discovery sternwheeler for a narrated excursion on the Chena River and go ashore at a recreated Athabascan Indian camp. Enjoy an all-you-can-eat authentic Miner’s lunch. Get an up close look at the famed Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Pan for gold at Gold Dredge 8. B,L
Day 9 : Marvel at Denali
This morning, we cross the Parks Highway bridge and continue through Nenana, a supply center for remote villages. Just over the Alaska Range, which offers sweeping vistas of untouched wilderness, we arrive in Denali National Park. At six million acres, it is one of the largest unspoiled regions in the world. A naturalist guide joins us on a 53-mile journey into the tundra. Watch for grizzly bear, moose, caribou, and Dall sheep. We end our day at the Denali Princess Lodge. B,L
Day 10 : Visit the Iditarod Trail
A scenic morning drive takes us to Palmer. After lunch at the Settlers Bay Lodge, we visit extraordinary sled dogs at the Iditarod Trail Headquarters and learn about the treasured Anchorage-to-Nome race. Later, traverse the Matanuska Valley, the state’s first agricultural center, before arriving in Anchorage. B,L
Day 11 : Cruise Through Glaciers
Today’s exhilarating experience is a highlight of our trip! We head south along the spellbinding scenery of Turnagain Arm, glaciers and mountains all around us. Then cruise the calm waters of Prince William Sound, with up-close views of tidewater glaciers. We often witness glaciers “calving” here, massive blocks of ice tumbling into the sound! L
Day 12 : Anchorage
This morning, we browse the Anchorage Market or the collection at the Anchorage Museum. After a special farewell lunch and an enlightening visit to the Alaska Native Heritage Center, transfer to the airport for an overnight flight home. L
Day 13 : Arrive Home
We arrive home from our wonderful Alaska experience.

KKTV Moms Everyday Host Jen Lennon spent most of her childhood growing up in Colorado Springs. Before that, her love of travel was sparked touring Europeas the youngest child of an Air Force family stationed in England. Her passion for history, music and theatre started on these memorable trips. Jen graduated from Doherty High School in the Springs and then headed to the Midwest to pursure an education that would combine her love of the arts and working with children. Jen holds a B.S. in Performance Studies and an M.S. in Education and Social Policy from Northwestern University. Jen began her teaching and performaing careers in the suburbs of Chicago, but relocated to Canada after meeting her husband, Greg.
Jen continued her teaching and performing in the Toronto area. She bean her family in Canada with two sons born a year apart, and then chose to return to her roots in Colorado.
Jen is thrilled to be near family again in Southern Colorado including her big brother, KKTV Evening Anchorman Don Ward. Jen and her husband added a third child, a daughter, to the family shortly after returning to the Springs.
Jen is passionate about children... her own and others.
"Being a mom is the most exhausting and exhilarating job! I believe in not only investing time in my own children's development, but in all children in our community. Moms Everyday has been the perfect opportunity for me to sit down with our expert partners and ask the questions all moms want to know. Jen continues to pursue her love of the ats by performing and teaching most recently with the Fine Arts Center, C.S. Children's Chorale and Academy District 20.
