The light atop the summit of Pikes Peak will shine a different color this week: green.

You can see it in the picture. It's that little green dot in the sky. And you can see it for yourself on clear nights.

Working in partnership with the City of Colorado Springs, the Catamount Institute changed the color of the light in celebration of the 2010 Southern Colorado Sustainability Conference this November 18-19 at the Antler Hilton in Colorado Springs.

The Institute says until now, the light’s sole purpose was to mark the summit of Pikes Peak. However, through Saturday morning, the green light will represent a visual declaration that the City of Colorado Springs and Catamount Institute are dedicated to advancing the Pikes Peak region as a sustainable community.
