58-year-old Michael Patterson died Saturday morning when his vehicle went off the road on highway 24 and collided with a mound of dirt. The crash is under investigation.

Mike Patterson, known to many in the Falcon community as Coach Mike, volunteered much of his time as a youth mentor through sports, even though he had no kids of his own on the team. "Every body called him Coach Mike and you just don't find a better guy than what Mike represented, he loved football," says Laurie Carson.

Football was a pastime for Coach Mike but it was his love for mentoring kids that kept him coming back. "And was absolutely one of the greatest guys to kids and not only coached them about football but coached them about life," says Carson.

Laurie Carson, and her daughters Brittany and Bailey, will miss the coach even though they weren't on his team. "It was almost like he coached me because he was always around. I am just going to miss him," says Brittany Carson.

As little Bailey wipes away tears she remembers Coach Mike. "Well, he was just a great guy," says Bailey Carson. "We miss you Mike and love you and think of you every day," says Laurie Carson.

Mike Patterson leaves behind a wife, two kids and two grand kids. With no health or life insurance, his family is asking that donations be made in lieu of flowers.
