A community is coming together to help one of its own. You may remember, 11 News is following the progress of Kayla Kammrad.
She's the Canon City mother who's hospitalized right now because of the H1N1 virus.
People there are helping support her and her family and they are doing it by ordering pizza! A local pizza restaurant is donating all the profits Sunday to Kayla's family in the hopes she will soon be home with them.
Sundays are usually slow for Mangiamo's Pizza and Subs in Canon City. But this Sunday was different. It was a revolving door of customers placing orders for one reason.
"I've never eaten here before, and when I found out they are donating time and funds to her I thought it was important," says Danielle Gill. She is Kayla Kammrad's friend and co-worker.
"It's great to see people support her and get a good pizza while they are at it," says Patrick Slawson, owner of Mangiamo's Pizza and Subs.
All the proceeds of Sunday's tickets are going to support Kayla Kammrad and her family. She's been in the hospital with the H1N1 virus for four weeks. "Kayla is stable, she's still very critical and still very sick and doctors are working as hard as they can," says Kayla's father, Robert Williams.
And so are the communities of Southern Colorado by making donations and ordering pizza all for Kayla
"I love her to death and I hope her to get better and for her to walk out of that hospital and see everyone again," says Gill.
"Especially when you have a health problem like this it's really cool to see the individuals and businesses and the whole community get tighter and pull for each other, it's a beautiful thing," says Aaron Wolking.
At the end of the fundraiser, $1,200.00 was raised for the Kammrad family.
If you would like to make a donation to the Kayla Kammrad fund, you can contact the Pueblo Bank and Trust in Canon City.

I heard about this Mom on the news a number of weeks ago and the story touched my heart. I have a 22 year old daughter with a young baby and her husband is in Afghanistan. She does not have H1N1, I am thankful, but I can relate to this Mom. My younger children and I pray EVERY night for Kayla to recover and be with her two kids and husband. I was glad to hear he was brought back from Iraq. Our prayers will still go on until we hear she is home and recovered!!!
