I wasn't aware that the "B-3/61 CAV - COP Keating" project was an American Legion only project. I worked with "Tankerbabe" to get a shipment to these guys. We (Reno, NV) lost one warrior and another trooper from Reno, along with a couple others, escorted our 8 fallen brothers part of their way home. OPERATION CookieJar sent 7 large boxes to the 56 surviving Troopers. I'm sure that the American Legion was a big help. So were many others.

I have been waiting for some news reports about the event today but now I'm wondering how your reporter got it so wrong. This has been a nationwide fundraiser not local. It was started through The American Legion's blog at www.burnpit.us and was spearheaded entirely through The American Legion with donations from individuals and organizations all across the country. The Target corporation stepped in during the campaign and offered to match the funds raised resulting in a donation from Target of $50,000. Since this was a Fort Carson unit that was involved the main event was held in Colorado Springs. That involved invaluable help from the state and local American Legion members as well as family members from the unit's troopers and the local Target store and employees. I don't know where the reporter was but unless the event went totally away from plan this story does not reflect anything like the event that I anticipated happening. I hope the station will consider redoing this story.
