If you bought a GE or Hotpoint dishwasher from March 2006 to August 2009, stop using it.
That's the word from the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Inez Tenebaum, chairwoman of the CPSC says, "My message to consumers is this: Stop using these dishwashers immediately, and disconnect the power supply to the unit. Consumers will have a choice of a free in-home repair, or they can get a rebate toward a new dishwasher."
GE says it found 15 heating elements failed. So far there have been seven fires because of those failures.
We're told three of those fires caused extensive property damage.
Altogether, the recall covers 1.3 million dishwashers including GE, GE Adora, GE Eterna, GE Profile, and Hotpoint.
