Scammers are calling local businesses, pretending to be employees of Colorado Springs Utilities.
Springs Utilities says 14 small businesses have reported the scam since last Friday. One business fell victim to it.
Those who have received the call report that the scammer, claiming to be with the utility company, says utilities will be turned off if the business doesn't pay a fee with their credit card or a prepaid card.
Springs Utilities says it will never ask for credit card information over the phone.
If you ever get a call that's questionable, hang up and call Springs Utilities yourself.
