SCAM ALERT: Phone Calls From Person Posing As Police Officer

There's a new phone scam to be on the alert for.

People are getting calls from someone claiming to be a police officer, who then asks for a lot of personal information. The calls are coming from a 303 area code. Any calls from 303-578-5558, or any combination of the last four digits, is probably a scam.

Investigators say the calls are most likely based overseas, and are hiding behind the Colorado area code. So far, no one has been reported as falling for the scam.

If these calls are originating overseas, there's only so much that our police, let alone the FCC who regulates that inside the U.S., can do about it... besides, this isn't much different than the phishing emails they send out. we just have to learn to not give our personal information to strangers.

Great, Police have identified where the calls are coming from, but we as the general public are just supposed to avoid it. What the hell?
