Justice Department Fights AT&T and T-Mobile Merger

If you're a T-Mobile customer who was hoping to get the latest, greatest iPhone later this year, the iPhone 5 experts now say you're out of luck.

The Justice Department lawsuit definitely puts that on the backburner.

Experts in the wireless field as well as consumer advocates say a merger between the two companies would be disastrous.

They say allowing AT&T and T-Mobile to merge would create the largest wireless company in the U.S., which would hurt users, not help them.

Chris Meyer, Vice President with Consumers Union says, "We have consistently warned that eliminating T-Mobile as a low cost option will raise prices, lower choices, and turn the cellular market into a duopoly controlled by AT&T and Verizon."

Consumer Reports is relieved the Justice Department has filed the suit.

It says T-Mobile's plans are $15-to-$50 a month cheaper than AT&T's.

AT&T received the lowest marks of all wireless carriers in the latest Consumer Reports satisfaction survey, with users saying they believed they were paying too much, and experiencing problems with voice and data service, as well as technical support and customer service.

AT&T says it's surprised and disappointed by the lawsuit.
To offset some of the criticism, it's offering to bring back 5,000 call center jobs it outsourced overseas.

    Wow! Im so happy to hear this! I have had Tmobile for 10 years now...and I am thrilled with them. They do totally have the BEST customer service around. I have had ATT in the past and was VERY unhappy. If this merger actually manages to go through.. I wont be staying with ATT.

    I've been with T-Mobile for almost ten years and I love them. The phone reception might not be as good as the others, but you get what you pay for with that. The customer service is the best I have experienced anywhere. They do very well at taking care of their customers. I hope this doesn't change.

    I absolutely HATE AT&T! They don't care about anybody but themselves and the money they can get out of everybody! Qwest, stinks also! Incompetent, pass the buck, greedy, hateful morons!
