The Fourth of July is here, and we are getting answers about where fireworks are legal this year.
For all of Colorado, fireworks that explode or leave the ground are illegal. For things like sparklers, it really depends on the city and county.
In Colorado Springs, all fireworks are illegal. A spokesperson with the Colorado Springs Fire Department tells 11 News that anything that has a fuse that you have to light is not allowed.
The spokesperson says they are already getting reports of fireworks being set off. To report illegal fireworks, you can call the Colorado Springs Police Department non-emergency line at 719-444-7000.
In unincorporated El Paso County, most common fireworks are okay, like sparklers and ground spinners; however, fireworks that explode or leave the ground are still illegal.
Fireworks tents are starting to show up all over Southern Colorado. We spoke to the owner of the tent near Powers and Palmer Park. It's east of Powers on county land so it is legal.
Georgia Anderson's family runs the tent, and has been in the fireworks business for decades. She says they know the rules for the county and always follow them.
"We're selling safe and same fireworks, things for the kids to play with that are safe. Nothing leaves the ground. Everything is totally legal in El Paso County," said Anderson.
In Pueblo and Pueblo County, most common fireworks are okay except those that explode or leave the ground.
The Teller County Sheriff's Office tells 11 News that fireworks that make noise or leave the ground are prohibited, but everything else is okay.
