Court papers spell it all out. Investigators say Scott Martin reportedly was the leader of a sophisticated identity theft ring.
They say he had about 20 people working underneath him.
They had various roles like stealing mail, breaking into cars, using victims' personal information to make counterfeit checks, and then passing those checks at businesses from Pueblo to Colorado Springs to Monument to Castle Rock.
He now faces numerous charges including identity theft and forgery, But this isn't the first time he's been in hot water.
Our own 11Call For Action team launched an investigation back in 2010 after Martin's company lost one family's dog and refused to give them a refund.
I asked Scott, "Why don't you just say that in the contract, no refunds? It's not in there."
He responded, "That's right, do you dictate how I run my business?"
I replied, "I'm just saying it would be easier for the customer."
He interrupts and says, "Get the f*** out of my face. Get out of my business."
At that time Scott also mentioned his criminal record.
He said, "Oh, and a long one too."
A few months later we tried to get answers from Martin for an army soldier who had been deployed to Iraq.
Chris Dillon had left his dog, Ava in Martin's care.
We later had to pass on the heartbreaking news... That Ava had been given to another family and then euthanized.
Chris said, "I would love to have her back in my arms right now."
Now at the center of a different investigation, Martin is being held at the Criminal Justice Center on $500,000 bond.
The reason it's so high is because authorities say they recorded his conversations with a girlfriend.
He reportedly walked her through a plan to make a fake check in the amount of $263,000 to bond him out of jail.
Then they reportedly were planning to leave the country and travel to a place which doesn't extradite suspects to the U.S. Instead martin's stuck behind bars facing serious charges.
Scott Martin could face decades behind bars.
His next court appearance is set for Thursday, February 16th.
