Police say he was the leader of a sophisticated identity theft ring, where about 20 people stole mail, broke into cars, and used information from people all over Colorado.

Thursday, that man was in court. He could face decades behind bars.

Scott Martin was once at the center of an 11 News investigation because of his local dog training business. Click here to read more.

Then last month, Martin was arrested for his alleged role in the ID theft ring. Police say he and his accomplices would steal victims' information to make counterfeit checks. They would then pass those checks at businesses from Pueblo all the way to Castle Rock.

Martin told the judge Thursday that he's changing lawyers. He'll be back in court in May.
