A local woman says she keeps getting calls from people asking her to stop making robo calls. The only thing is, she isn't making the calls. Scammers have spoofed her number, and authorities say there's not much she can do about it.

Crooks are using local names and numbers in their scams, because people are more likely to pick up the phone if the area code on the caller ID is the same as their own.

Hilary Brendemuhl called her carrier, but the only advice they gave her to change her number. Brendemuhl says that is tough, because the spoofed number is for her business.

The government is asking phone companies to develop the technology to stop scammers from spoofing people's phone numbers. We'll be sure to let you know if they do.
