Call For Action: Chicken Jerky Could Be Behind Your Dog's Sickness

The FDA is warning consumers about chicken jerky products for dogs, but the FDA hasn't figured out if it's a particular brand causing dogs to get sick.

If you feed your dog these kinds of snacks, the FDA says to watch for the following symptoms:

-decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea
-increased thirst and urination

If your dog shows any of these signs, stop feeding the chicken jerky product. Call the vet if signs persist for more than 24 hours.

Experts are collecting data to pinpoint a specific brand of treats that is causing the sickness.

It is important to read the actual FDA notice. The FDA does not implicate any brand, or for that matter, that there is a confirmed connection to chicken jerky and illness. The current FDA alert contains the statements “The FDA continues to actively investigate the problem and its origin. Many of the illnesses reported may be the result of causes other than eating chicken jerky” and “To date, scientists have not been able to determine a definitive cause for the reported illnesses. FDA continues extensive chemical and microbial testing but has not identified a contaminant.”The FDA statement can be found here:
