Hotel Scam On BBB's Top Ten List

The Better Business Bureau has come out a list of the top ten scams from 2011, and one of them may surprise you.

Even though crooks still try to get you with sweepstakes scams and fake job offers, you may not have heard about this scam aimed at stealing your identity and credit card information from people staying in hotels.

In fact, some hotels are now posting warning signs in their lobbies about this scam.

The BBB says it works this way:

-You get a call in your hotel room in the middle of the night.
-The person claims to be the front desk clerk, saying their computer's crashed and they need to get your credit card number again.
-Sleepy victims wind up grabbing their cards and reading off the number to the crook on the other end.

The best advice to protect yourself is to is to hang up and call the front desk clerk yourself.

For a list of the other scams that made the list, check out the Better Business Bureau website.
