Why The Video Looks Shaky (Don Ward)
Updated: 06/18/2013 - We did a quick helicopter tour of the Black Forest burn area. Someone asked why the video looks shaky.
A Colorado Springs family just wanted to use the dishwasher. They thought everything would be fine once a recalled part was installed.
But the repairman accidentally broke off another part... while doing the work.
Then they learned that other part also was on back order and would take awhile to get.
Paul Youngmeyer says, "At that point I was pretty dismayed. My wife and I had been doing dishes by hand for awhile and then I went round and round at that point trying to get some resolution."
Paul says his frustration got to the boiling point after spending countless hours on the phone talking to Sears... where he bought the dishwasher and to Maytag, the manufacturer. He said neither offered to help.
Paul says, "We were just struck there in the middle between Sears and Maytag basically... and everybody was just pointing fingers."
That's when Paul made a Call For Action to our volunteer Tracy who called Sears and Maytag.
A few weeks later Sears replaced Paul's dishwasher with a newer model... ridding him of dishpan hands.
Paul says, "I am thoroughly convinced nothing would've been resolved if channel 11 had not elevated this issue for me."
Recalls can become long, drawn out affairs especially when they're so massive.
Maytag tells me there's always a potential for other parts to break when a recall involves appliances which are 6 to 10 years old.
