Does It Really Do That? Downy Wrinkle Releaser

Head to the laundromat or the dry cleaners and you'll find folks cleaning and pressing clothes.
One of the biggest hassles is getting out the wrinkles.
One product made by Downy claims to quickly relax the fibers, reducing unsightly wrinkles.
So we asked Pat Sykes, the manager at Summit Cleaners in Colorado Springs to evauluate the $4 bottle of spray.
I squirted Downy Wrinkle Releaser on this blue t-shirt and did nothing with the red t-shirt, which is just like it. You could tell the difference.
Pat points out, "Compared to this one, yes. The wrinkles look like they're gone."
We also tried the product on men's cotton dress shirts.
We could see the wrinkles vanish after spending a few seconds physically pressing, tugging, and smoothing.
Then on this dress shirt... Summit workers pressed one side... leaving the other side for us. We sprayed Wrinkle Releaser, then compared the two.
Pat found, "It looks better than it did!"
But we didn't get the same smooth results with this black polyester robe which had deep creases.
Pat's assessment... nothing compares to the crisp, polished look, feel, and smell of a dry cleaned item, but travelers may have found a new best friend.
Pat says, "It did better than I expected and so things looked pretty good, especially for somebody that's traveling or needs something right now when the dry cleaners are closed."
Norma Esposo with Norvales Laundry says she uses Downy Wrinkle Releaser all the time. In fact, she substitutes it for spray starch...finding it improves an ironing job. She also likes the light scent.
Norma says, "The clothes smell fresh and clean."
But some with allergies may not like the fresh scent so the makers of Downy suggest trying Ultra Downy, which has no dyes or perfumes.
We asked Downy for a list of its ingredients since they're not listed on the bottle, but we never heard back.
One website, organicclothingblogsdotcom... says Wrinkle Releaser contains lots of chemicals which... if used a lot... can eventually leave a greasy film on your clothes. But if you're looking for a quick wrinkle fix, this seems to do the job.
Downy's website says you can use Wrinkle Releaser on everything from cottons and rayons to dry cleanable fabrics like wool.
It won't give you the pristine finish of a dry cleaners or your iron, but it's great in a pinch.
