The DeLotto Switzerland Sweepstakes Scam

This letter is making the rounds like no other. I've heard from a least ten people who've received it. I even got one myself.
It claims you've won 2nd place in
The Delotto Switzerland Sweepstakes.
We were able to prevent one Colorado Springs family from falling for it, but we learned it was too late to help another local woman we'll call Peggy.
Peggy says, "I thought I would share this with my family, get a new car and do things that I haven't been able to do for a long time."
Peggy doesn't want you to know her real name, but she wants you to learn from her story.
After being told she won 250-thousand dollars... she did as instructed.... calling a number in Ontario, Canada. She was told to cash this enclosed check and wire back the funds to cover taxes and fees.
Because Peggy's credit union is out of state... she didn't find out for several days that the check was no good... so she lost a total of $4,655.
"My credit union has agreed to allow me to pay that money back in monthly payments for three years. It's going to take me three years to pay it back" says Peggy.
Rita and Edward Fenner also deposited a check that looked like Peggy's and were ready to wire money to Canada, but visited us first... so they didn't lose a dime. We even called their bank and an associate agreed to forego the bounced check fee.
Rita Fenner says, "I'm just happy that we came to you guys and got this taken care of, but it's a heartbreaker."
Edward Fenner says, "They need to be prosecuted you know."
Whenever you're told you've won a sweepstakes or lottery... ask yourself these questions.
Did you enter a foreign sweepstakes and buy a ticket? Remember, you can't win a contest you never entered.
Were you in that country at the time? It's illegal to participate in a foreign lottery while you're here in the U.S.
Are you being asked to pay for taxes or fees? It's against the law to require you to pay anything before receiving your prize. No legitimate lottery asks for fees upfront.
Another tipoff... If you reportedly won a Swiss sweepstakes... why does Canada need your tax payments or fees.
Peggy says if she had been skeptical instead of excited... she would've saved herself a lot of money and heartache.
