Everyday an Orlando, Florida company says it gets 50,000 to 75,000 job applications. Career Network says that amounts to 3 million applications a week... which come in from several different websites it utilitzes like craigslist.
That's why its workers sometimes make calls on the weekends... trying to verify information with job seekers.
It wants folks to know... their workers are above board and legit. It's not an employment agency, a school, or even a crook trying to steal personal information.
Career Network is simply a job board that allows employers to post jobs for free and lets job seekers apply for those positions also for free.
John Tidrick of Security was suspicious about the company when he was called early Saturday morning... and was told to be standing by a computer with internet access and that the process might take up to 45 minutes.
Tidrick says, "They wouldn't tell you what position it was for and they wouldn't tell you what company it was for. They wanted to verify information for job placement."
Career Network says it wants to correct that misperception. It says its workers are usually very upfront and explain their role on the phone, but their job isn't to answer job questions. It's simply to get folks to complete their applications.
The company wants to set the record straight. It says some job seekers have posted negative blogs about it because they're angry that employers never contacted them, they weren't offered a job, or they made mistakes and are blaming Career Network erroneously.
It's also working with the Better Business Bureau to clear up those kind of complaints.
I'm told Career Network never asks for personal information. It simply is trying to hook up employers with potential employees.. operating under different web sites and names.
