Local Company Scams on Thousands of Illegal Immigrants

A Colorado Springs business, the Immigration Center, has been banned from engaging in deceptive trade practices. The company has allegedly scammed thousands of consumers.

According to a complaints, the Immigration Center advertised itself as being able to help immigrants obtain and complete various immigration forms. However, only after consumers paid $300 to $700 did they realize they were not dealing with a government agency.

The Immigration Center, located at 2928 Main Street Suite 100, also did not have attorneys or anyone with expertise in immigration law. The business forwarded forms to those who paid, but those immigration forms are readily available for free from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The fee the business charged was roughly the same amount of money as the government would for processing the immigration forms. Therefore, consumers thought the fees would grant their citizenship or a change in their immigration statuses.

The Colorado Attorney General says consumers who requested a refund of their $300 to $700 fee, the Immigration Center quoted their “no refunds” policy or simply ignored consumer requests.

The first complaint about this company was filed in 2007 so the Immigration Center’s deceptive trade practices is thought to have affected thousands of consumers.

The DA says this ban on deceptive practices is a temporary order, until the full lawsuit goes through.

I agree with NoWay. Illegals were put on this Earth to be taken advantage of in any way, shape or form. Illegals should not be eligible for law enforcement services; if they get robbed, tough. Lori, most illegals who drop anchor babies will go to social services and tell them the father is not living in the home, even though he is sitting out in the waiting area, and - naturally - works under the table. That's why you see illegals in the grocery store with big steaks and racks of ribs that are paid for with a food stamp card, while the 30 pack of beer and the 1/2 gallon of Sauza are separated and paid for with the cash aid card. Then they go out and get into a nice SUV with fancy wheels.

Where does it say in the article that these people were "illegal or from Mexico"? Maybe they were in the Country legally and trying to adjust their status. duh! You want them here legally and when they try and do things the right way they still get bashed, how sad.

It is obvious that people in this community know NOTHING about illegal immigrants. Please do some research before spouting your hate filled stupidity. Illegal immigrants are breaking the law, yes. The notion that all of them are "scamming" the goverment is vastly incorrect. Those working are paying into Social Security, Medicare and State taxes. They will never collect the money paid into the system. They contribute approximately 21.5 billion to our national economy annually. This doesn't include their contributions to their local communities, through store purchases & normal monthly bills like rent, car payments and food. Illegal immigration isn't so black & white. What drives illegals varies depending on which country they come from (they are not all from Mexico) but make no mistake, it is a dire situation that makes a person turn his/her back on everything he/she knows for just a chance at a better life.

These people should be scammed just as they are scamming the goverment for our money. And NO they WERE NOT trying to do things right if they are already in colorado...They have already broken the law. As far as I can tell all this did was keep more of our money in the U.S. instead of being sent back to mexico. We need a 100 percent tax on all monies sent out of the country!

anonymous, where do you get your info that we are getting scammed by illegal immigrants? the only ones who scam us are the Korean liquor store owners and the Indian motel owners. All the Mexicans do is give cheap labor. get off your hateful trip and quit listening to Fox news. I bet you believe in the Obama death squads too.
