We asked the Colorado Attorney General's office to look into C&K Distributing... after hearing from residents.
Employees reportedly were going door to door, asking residents to take part in a simple, verbal survey.
In return... they were promised their names would be entered in a $500 shopping spree.
Sounds great... but some folks tell us... they didn't know there were strings attached.
Stephanie Pollard says... "I think most of the time when somebody comes to my door, I feel a little bit uneasy about giving out information. I think this certainly struck a chord with me... that it seemed a little less... A little less than honest."
Pollard says she heard the conversation... between her husband Michael and the folks who knocked on their front door.
The pair said they were with a company called K-Max... Also known as C&K Distributing.
They reportedly asked Michael three questions... His name, his phone number, and what credit card he likes to use. Then they left him this handout... saying Michael was entered in a $500 shopping spree.
After they left, Michael read the small print... which said his participating in the survey... meant the company could now remove his name from the No Call List.
Michael says, "Iit seems like a scam. It seems like a sneaky way to get around the law... and to get around what we were trying to do by avoiding telemarketers and unwanted solicitors."
The Colorado Attorney General's office told us.... it received 36 complaints about the company last year.
An attorney with the A.G.'s office told C&K's owner... his employees must get signed waivers from residents.
Clint Brown... The owner of C&K... told us he's now in the process of changing the notices.
From now on... he'll have employees ask residents to sign their initials... to participate in his survey.
He wants to make it clear... he has no intention of taking residents off the No Call List... but signing their initials does mean... His telemarketers can contact No Call residents... in the hopes of selling them vacuum cleaners.
Brown also says the $500 shopping spree will probably be a giftcard which can be used anywhere.
The winner could be selected sometime in december.
