State and local prosecutors say complaints about job scams are on the rise in Colorado.

The Denver district attorney's office said this week that employment-related fraud complaints have jumped from a couple per month six months ago to as many as five a week now.

The state attorney general's office says it's received dozens of complaints about job scams in the past month.

Examples of fraud include jobs that are misrepresented in advertisements. Others charge up front fees to find jobs for applicants, a practice forbidden by Colorado law.

Officials also tell candidates to steer clear of applications that ask for Social Security numbers and other personal identity information up front.
