Authorities are looking for a fugitive accused of ripping off countless victims in Colorado Springs.
You may remember our 11Call for Action Investigation on Bill Bowen, owner of Greenlife Exteriors roofing company. Our reports led to theft charges being filed against him.
We tried to catch up with Bowen at his last known address, a rental home in Larkspur about 30 miles north of Colorado Springs.
A few of his belongings are there, but authorities don't know where Bowen is.
Now, they've revoked his bond and are actively trying to find him.
El Paso County court documents explain why.
A deputy district attorney says he's learned that Bowen was actively trying to scam small business owners out of large sums of money by posing as a venture capitalist.
He goes on to say that Bowen is "a flight risk...a man facing an extremely long prison sentence...who has no reason to stay in El Paso County."
I talked to two business owners who consulted with Bowen, only they tell me he was using the name Bill Williams, not Bill Bowen.
They tell me Bowen's resume doesn't add up.
One document from the district attorney shows Bowen claiming he was vice president of a Florida company, when court records show he was on probation for credit card abuse in Dallas; then serving time for mail fraud in Charlotte, N.C.; and later in Virginia Beach, Va.
Business owners I talked with say he promised his company, North Star Investment Group, could get them short and long term loans if they gave him $25,000 upfront.
Leona Miracle of Colorado Springs says, "He needs to be taken off the streets before he hurts anyone else."
Miracle says she's one of Bowen's many victims. She lost a 34-acre spread in Franktown after Bowen and his partner, Tina, signed a lease-to-own agreement.
Miracle's case was investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. I'm told the DA decided not to file charges because at the time, there wasn't enough evidence.
Bowen's trial for felony theft here in El Paso County is set for mid-August, but he's also facing a domestic violence charge in Douglas County involving Tina.
We'll let you know if and when Bowen's caught and where.
