The pattern in one word, "Unsettled". The upper level flow is fast and rolling right through our area, and that will send several upper level disturbances through our state. Keep in mind, none of them will be terribly strong, but will be enough to keep snow showers in the forecast through the weekend. Plus, our latest computer models send another wave through Southern Colorado on Monday. Tough to say if that one will go too far south or not... Anyway, here is a brief breakdown of how things should shake out this weekend.

1st Wave Friday night: Will produce a few snow showers, just like the one this past evening. Accumulations will generally be light and shouldn't cause any travel problems. Trace to 2".

2nd Wave Saturday PM - Sunday AM: Wave is a bit stronger, more of a southern track, but still looks to do about the same. Accumulations look to be light, in the trace to 2" category.

3rd Wave Monday & Monday night: Unsure if it will be a player or not. Something we will work on in the next few days.

So, worst case scenario some places could have 4" of snow on the ground by Sunday afternoon. Best case scenario, just a dusting on the grass. Tough to say when snow showers are involved. They are just like thunderstorms in the Summer. One location gets quite a bit, then a few miles down the road, almost nothing. So, don't think this will be a widespread and equal opportunity type of event. Rarely is it ever...

Regardless, just plan on seeing some snow this weekend, but it does not appear to be a big deal. We'll update you if that thinking changes.

I am *not* going to get excited about this "stronger" storm coming this weekend! I'll keep saying "one to three, maybe a trace" instead, lol.

Julio, i know what you mean, don't forget, even Dallas Tx, had a couple of 12 - 14 inchers, Little Rock, Ark, even Atlanta Ga had more than we have had for last several winters, as far as how much in a single so called storm is concerned. so the springs sucks for snow watching, & makes me wish to have that ' Scotty, beam me up trasnporter device from Star Trek' so i could get to the ski areas with out the mega drive times, seems that is the only way we could ever see a good snow cover anymore, is to drive to the ski areas , yea i know, $$$, highway cops/ tickets,& other road hazards involved to get there, then have to return to the drive back leaving only about 4 - 6 hours at most to enjoy the ski area... here is a term for you to use , i got only a 1/2 broomdusting of snow, that is about a 1/2 snow grain deep... jon

Posted this blog on Thursay, and for the most part amounts worked pretty well for lower elevations. Have seen totals in the 0.5" to 4" range, with the mountains getting the heavy stuff. Wave coming through tonight and Monday morning will add a little more, but nothing crazy for the lower elevations. Mountains will continue to pile it up... Thanks for reading our blog.

So what happened with this one? I've seen forecasts all over the map... from 4 to 8 inches, some said 3 to 7 inches, but now all are saying about 1 to 3 (or 4)inches. So whay happened this time? Once again, everything south of us got hammered. Probably the same to the north. Man these nuisance storms are getting old! Every time man!

yep freezing drizzle all over the place, the worst kind of weather we could ever get, the crappest , most worthless sort of weather we could ever get, it is of absolute no value or benefit, would rather it be in the ' 50s or get a double digit snow fall, but we seem always get the worse possible kind .. freezing drizzle.. eck !!. jon

It's Saturday evening, and due to the deep fog here, it is literally a sheet of ice out there. I'm not sure if other parts of town are experiencing the same thing!

for Julio & Ed.. i have been 'here ' for now 52.5 yrs. but at Circle & Maizeland Rd, every winter even the dry ones, we use to get at least one or 2 snows of 7 - 10 inch with seasonal totals usually about 35 - 44 inch with the bad winters of 35 - 30 inch totals. these waves that Brian mentioned, may have been able in the past produce more like 5 - 7 inch snow in/near downtown, something has definatly changed in our weather here. not as extream cold in winter hence the pine beetle plauge, not as good snow pack in mts as in past, earlier melt off, i use to be able to 'glissade'on snow fields on high peaks in July, now, mostly off by early June, back country skiers use to be able to ski into mid summer in high country , not anymore, early melt out of smaller snowpacks. a very long range inter glacial period melt occurring may be very long time before the trend turns to begining of next glacial period..jon
