December 7th, 2009: Looks Like a Tough Tuesday...

A strong storm will move through Colorado onTuesday.  This storm is fast moving, and will target the mountains with the worst weather.  However, the Eastern Slope will also see some wintry weather.  The best energy arrives early Tuesday morning, and is gone by Noon.  The timeframe from 5am to 10am will likely contain the heaviest snow, along the I-25 Corridor.  Then the focus for snow will shift on to the Plains.   However, the afternoon will contain the strongest wind.  North to northwest winds could exceed 35 mph on Tuesday afternoon, creating a lot of blowing and drifting snow.  This snow is light, fluffy, powdery, and will be blown around very effectively.  Oh yeah, it's going to be cold too...lol.  All in all, Tuesday just doesn't look very nice.  Summary graphics below...

total here about 5 in. wiht .33 water content, nothing unusual , but very cold, Brian, a question: for this air mass to arrive this cold, how cold was it at it's origin in the arctic ? would it be -50 or colder there, or - 60? even when it gets to north Alberta,Ca. is it still in the - 40s there ? i am really curious about this. saw that even Phoneix had a chilly day in low 50's chilly for sure..jon

We've had 10" since last night and it's still lightly snowing......we're actually 2-3 miles SWS of Rye up the mountain...so our totals are a bit more than Rye. We sure are lovin' the snow this winter!! I also am curious to see if we've broken any records with the cold temps??
