While we knew the storm wouldn't be out of here until sometime Thursday, the storm made absolutely no progress today. It meandered around The 4 Corners, but gave substantial amounts of snow to the northern Front Range. Check out some of the totals through 7 p.m. Wednesday: 0700 PM HEAVY SNOW S LONGMONT 40.17N 105.11W At the same time, only spotty heavy snow hit the southern part of the state and that was forecasted. Totals below are through 7pm Wednesday. Nathrop: 22" Salida: 15" Woodland Park: 10" Monument: 8.5" Cuchara: 7" Rye & Beulah: 5" Just SW of CO Springs: 3" The storm still doesn't look like it will setup correctly to produce heavy snow for Colorado Springs or Pueblo. According to our computer models the storm is supposed to move from NW New Mexico tonight: To SW Nebraska by Thursday evening: While the track is a favorable one for additional snow, wind, and cold temperatures, we will develop strong north to northwest winds on Thursday. That usually squelches any real accumulating snow threat for Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Canon City. This looks to be no exception. Below are graphics for the additional snow we could receive through Thursday: If a location gets 3" in the white shaded area, it will likely fall well east of Colorado Springs. Any additional accumulation in CO Springs would be under an inch. The higher totals will be north... Any accumulation in Pueblo would be a dusting at best, with the best shot at additional accumulation to the west and east of Pueblo. The real problem tomorrow will be the wind, which will gust over 35 to 40 mph. This will cause lots of blowing and drifting for areas that have good snow on the ground and those areas that pick up additional snow. Travel anywhere on the Palmer Divide could be dangerous tomorrow... Here's our Thursday Troubles... Drive safely, stay warm, and be prepared if you have to travel. We'll continue to update you on the progress of the storm... Chief Meteorologist Brian Bledsoe |
