More Kirksville Tornado Video...

We see the good and bad from storm chasers every year, but Reed Timmer and his crew are truly into the science as well as the rush of chasing.  His website, has some impressive video from the Kirksville tornado.  In fact, they actually got to deploy their own mobile radar within the tornado.  If I am not mistaken, this is a chasing first...

Go to his website, click on the first Kirksville video you see and enjoy the ride:

Yeah Tim, that was pretty impressive stuff. However, I feel bad for the crews chasing this Spring, i.e. VORTEX 2. The main flow at 500mb has been shoved well to the north. This limits the amount of shear in the atmosphere, and thus limits tornado production. There have been a few good days, but recently it has been pretty quiet. I don't see this changing in the near term. Heck, the Northern Plains may end up being their best bet for quite a while... Thanks for checking in Tim.

Wow, hadn't seen the video yet! For those who aren't familiar with Reed's setup, he's not taking those chances in your average automobile, he has a well "armored" vehicle this year for just such a purpose. You don't really see it on the video, so I thought it important to point that out before you go driving the "family truckster" out east :) I'm very interested to see the results of the radar data!
