February 10th Early Season Severe Weather Outbreak

A Spring-like weather pattern brought unusual warmth and moisture into the Southern Plains.  A strong jet stream and powerful disturbance contributed to numerous severe storms, with 6 reported tornadoes.  One of the stronger tornadoes hit Lone Grove, OK and killed 8 people.   See the graphic below for more information.

While February tornadoes aren't that uncommon, they usually occur a little farther south and east.   Last February the Super Tuesday Outbreak was one of the bigger outbreaks on record.  The death toll reached 57 and the number of tornadoes reached 87.  A total of 10 EF-3 and EF-4 tornadoes were reported, with over $1 Billion dollars in damage.  Click on the following link for more information on this record weather event:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Super_Tuesday_tornado_outbreak
