The Best Sports Movie of ALL-TIME! (Sam Farnsworth)

In my opinion, a bracket should be used to determine the champion of EVERYTHING! A tournament is long overdue in college football, it should be used to determine the FedEx Cup champion in pro golf and it should be used to choose the greatest sports movie of all-time.

Bracket-mania has come to a conclusion with the end of the NCAA Tournament this past week. But why not keep it going?

In my opinion, a bracket should be used to determine the champion of EVERYTHING! A tournament is long overdue in college football, it should be used to determine the FedEx Cup champion in pro golf and it should even be used to determine what goes best with chocolate! (We all know that mint and chocolate would edge past peanut butter and chocolate, especially when it comes to ice cream flavors! But we’ll save that bracket for another day.)
What may be even a more hotly contested debate than the best flavor of ice cream would be what the best sports movie ever made is! Whenever I ask this question I get a lot of the same responses. But many times the movie suggested to me doesn’t register in my top five.
Rudy, Remember the Titans, Miracle, Rocky… NOT in my top five! (I will reveal my top five sports movies a bit later.)
So how do we determine which is the best sports movie of all-time? The answer really is simple. We need to match the movies up head-to-head in a bracket format and let YOU choose the winners until there is only one movie left in your TV stand.
Where do we begin? Well, I sent out hundreds of e-mails and Facebook messages to my personal friends and social-network followers. I asked everyone to compile a list, big or small, of their favorite sports movies. I even asked co-workers, friends and family in person to do the same. After gathering each list that was sent to me we added up how many votes each movie received. Over 140 movies were nominated, receiving at least one vote.
Just like in the NCAA Basketball Tournament, the Best Sports Movies Tournament also has some automatic bids. The auto-bids went to the movie with the most votes from the following categories: Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Soccer, Golf, Extreme Sports, Sports Documentary, Track&Field/Olympic Sports and Boxing/Martial Arts/Wrestling.
That’s a total of 10 automatic bids with 54 at-large bids for the movies with the most votes/nominations that were left over. There are 64 total movies competing in four “regions” of 16 movies. Seeding was determined by the number of votes/nominations each movie received. So a number one seed is given to the four movies that received the most votes. The four 16 seeds were given to the movies with the four fewest votes/nominations.
Attached is a copy of the bracket with all match-ups for this tournament. We will post online polls for each matchup for you to vote which movie should advance to the next round.
So without further delay, here are your movies competing for the title of Best Sports Movie EVER!

Blazer... Dodgeball was also nominated. We had over 160 films nominated. They way we picked the 64 for the bracket was by how many nominations each film got. Dodge Ball didn't get enough nominations to make it into the top 64. I originally asked viewers via facebook and e-mail to submit their nominations. About a month later I collected all of the nominations to make the final 64. The seedings were given by the # of nominations too. So the movies with the most nominations go the #1 seed, and so on.

Remember the Titans is easily mentioned as the greatest more times than not. You can argue about the second best movie ever made! But Remember the Titans stands alone! You also forgot about Radio! That movie easily matches up with your 4 seeds or higher. Another good movie for wrestling fans is Vision Quest.

Ray, Radio is a great movie. It was nominated and received a 12th seed in our bracket but lost to the movie Invincible in the first round of our online voting. So it did not make it too far. Thanks for your comment though. I'll have to check out Vision Quest. Never heard of that one.
