Every year it seems no matter how funny other commercials may be, it's the ones with man's best friend that reign supreme.

Every year it seems no matter how funny other Superbowl commercials may be, it's the ones with man's best friend that reign supreme.

This year, it was a cute little pug that burst through a door for a taste of some Doritos and a house party where a house full of pets turned into party hosts that tied for first place, according to the USA Today's Superbowl Ad Meter.

Take a look at all the

Pug Attack was made by a website designer from Utah, who initially submitted his ad into the Crash The Superbowl contest.

For several years now, Frito Lay has been holding the Crash the Superbowl contest for it's Doritos brand, allowing the regular day consumer to make a commercial. This year they opted to include their Pepsi Max brand as well.  I followed the contest from start to finish.  Contestants started submitting commercials last November.  Frito Lay ad executives whittled the more than 5,000 entries down to ten (5 Doritos, 5 Pepsi Max).  Then, viewers voted for their favorites to air on the Superbowl.  Six of the ten finalists aired on Superbowl Sunday(3 Doritos, 3 Pepsi Max).

I'm going to be honest, I was skeptical by the choices Frito Lay made for this year's big game. After watching a lot of entries before the finalists were announced, I thought Frito Lay made the wrong choices.  Here's a look at my favorites that didn't make the cut during the original contest.

Crunch Or Bust:

I was even more disappointed with the Pepsi Max commercials that aired.  In fact, the Pepsi Max commercials didn't fair quite as well on the USA Today Ad Meter.  If you don't compare them to anything else, they're watchable and do have some funny moments.  But take a look at these entries that were looked over during the original contest.  Personally, these entries are .. by far .. better quality and deserve some recognition.

The Choice:

But here's the bottom line:  The goal for Frito Lay was to produce a winner on the ad meter.  I may not be fond of the commercials they aired but what do I know?  Frito Lay produced a winner in their Pug Attack spot.  Congratulations to them and the website designer from Utah that created it.

See ya,
