Take the kids to see these guys!

These Guys can really play!

At a time when we all take sports so seriously..it's nice to see some athletes lighten up as they light it up.  The team is called the Harlem Wizards.."trick hoopz and alley oops"  and that's just what they gave us tonight at the Olympic Training Center.  The show was a benefit for an organization called "Let The Kids Play"...their mission is to provide sports equipment to kids in need.  (great cause)  KKTV 11 News was proud to sponsor the game and I was pleased to be there as the emcee.

Let me tell you what I really liked about the game/show.  These are gifted athletes...and they're also talented entertainers.  Swoop and King Arthur and Sky Cam and the others can dribble, pass and shoot their way around any of the all-star teams assembled to serve as the night's opponent/victim.  There's also amazing trick work, and hilarious crowd interaction between the slam dunks and long shots.  Tonight's all-star opponents included Chief Meteorologist Brian Bledsoe ( who did sink a 3) and his young son Kendrick, who must have scored 8 or 10!  Betty Sexton's son Taylor played too, so did her nephew Bailey. No opponent stands much of a chance against the mighty Wizards.

What's great is that from my position courtside, I could watch the Wizards interact with one another..and they were having a wonderful time!  They told me they spend the whole school year traveling and playing/performing together, usually at schools, from coast to coast.  They told me they're like a big family, and it shows!

These are all strong, tough, talented ball players.......but with an evident soft-spot for kids, and a gift for making fans of all ages smile the whole time.  The crowd and kid interaction is just right.  It's never too much, it's never uncomfortable and it's always executed with genuine affection for the little fans.  As smooth as one of these guys is, driving the lane and slamming it home..they are all just as smooth taking a child by the hand, leading him to center court and and making him part of the show.

This is first-rate family entertainment..it never crosses a line into anything remotely inappropriate. So take the family, tomorrow (Tuesday) night. You can get tickets at the door at the Olympic Training Center.

You'll have  lot of fun watching the Wizards...and they'll probably have just as much fun playing basketball, and playing to the crowd.

We'll talk again soon
