Kurtz's Top 25 CFB Rankings - 10/18/09

I was very disappointed with the Big 12 North this week. Specifically Nebraska and Kansas. Just as I jumped on the Huskers bandwagon, they let me down by laying an egg at Texas Tech. Where was that spark I saw for one quarter at Missouri? Where was the momentum carry over? Great teams ride momentum and win road games at Texas Tech.

For a third straight year College Football's Harris Poll has extended me an invitation to be a Top 25 voter (1 of 114 in the country).  I am honored to be trusted with such a huge responsibility.  It's a role I am passionate about and take very seriously as the Harris Poll is a huge part of the BCS equation that determines who plays for a National Championship.  I will continue to make my votes public on this blog site.  Check in each Sunday morning to see how I voted.  Feel free to leave your thoughts, praise and/or criticisms in the "comment" feature on this page.

No change in my top three this week.  Florida's rally against Arkansas was enough to keep them in the top spot this week.  Texas' win over Oklahoma keeps them in the national title hunt too.  I was a little hesitant with Boise State after the Broncos struggled at Tulsa (a team that was throttled by Oklahoma earlier this season) but was encouraged after talking to a college football coaching legend this week.  He sold me on the Broncos especially because of their defense.  With that said, Boise State remains at #5 this week.

Dropping out of the top 10 this week are Virginia Tech and Ohio State.  TCU continues to impress with a 38-point beat-down of Colorado State.

Right now, I have Big Red at #26 just behind Oklahoma (Huskers play the Sooners in two weeks so well find out of a 3-3 OU team is better than a 4-2 NU team).  The Huskers next play at Kansas who I also have dropped out of the top 25.  The Jayhawks had no business being down 17 points to Colorado (of course they rallied to take a 4th-quarter lead)... nor did they have any business letting a CU team, who has been in an emotional tailspin, rally with a late-game drive behind a rookie quarterback to win the game.  For the record, I love Todd Reesing!  I think he'll make a great pro.  I love Dezmon Briscoe too!  I think he'll be a top-15 pick when he enters the NFL draft.  But two guys can only carry a team so far.
