Jesse Kurtz's Top 25 Poll - Sunday, November 9th

Penn State is dropped from the BCS equation. How does a Texas Tech - Alabama National Championship sound?

And then there were two....

Only two undefeated teams remain from the "power conferences" in College Football.  #1 Alabama and #2 Texas Tech.  If the 'Tide and Red Raiders (who face Oklahoma next week) win out, we likely will have very little controversy surrounding the National Championship game.  An undefeated SEC champ vs an undefeated Big 12 champ.  The two best teams, from the two best conferences battling it out for a crystal football...

However, if Texas Tech falls next week to Oklahoma or Alabama loses in the SEC Title game.... WE'VE GOT CONTROVERSY.   Florida, Texas, USC, Oklahoma and Penn State all will be screaming for their slice of Championship Pie.  BCS Haters will love every minute of it.

For the record, I am still VERY high on Oklahoma State.  Therefore I didn't drop them out of my top ten.  They had a bad night against Texas Tech.  But I still think they beat teams like Penn State, Missouri or Georgia on a neutral field.

I also didn't punish TCU that much after a loss to Utah.  They outplayed the Utes.  The Frogs "won the battle, but lost the war."  TCU only drops to #14.

Finally, living on Colorado Springs I have been very impressed with Air Force.  At 8-2, they are on the verge of breaking into my Top 25.  I went back and forth on weather Oregon State or Air Force deserved a #25 ranking this week.  Both have worth records, but the Beavers win over USC (then #1) gives them the nod.  However Falcon fans, Troy Calhoun and company have a chance this week to not only move into the Top 25, but perhaps crack the Top 20 by beating BYU.  Air Force needs a "quality" win to impress the pollsters.  They have their chance against BYU next Saturday followed by a trip to TCU to finish the season.

Until next time, keep livin' the dream....  Jesse Kurtz, KKTV Sports Anchor/Reporter
