Jesse Kurtz's Top 25 Poll - Sunday, October 5th

The Tide rolls Into top spot, barely... Watch out for them 'Horns because they're the Real McCoy!

Just another week in College Football!  Big shake up in my Top 10 this week.  I pondered long and hard about who is deserving of the #1 ranking this week.  Alabama or Texas.

Texas did what I thought nobody could do this season.  Beat Oklahoma!  Not only did they beat the Sooners, they were tougher.  In watching the game, I still am convinced Oklahoma is the more "talented" team.  But talent alone will NEVER beat a team like Texas.  The 'Horns were "tougher" and that goes a looooooooong way.  Colt McCoy was impressive going 28-of-35 for 277 yards with a touchdown and no turnovers in the biggest game of his life.  With all of that said, Texas is #2 this week.  Here's why:  The 'Horns will have a chance in the next three weeks to really prove their clout with back-to-back-to-back games against Missouri, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech.  That is how a national championship run should look.  But make no mistake about it, #2 is not bad place to be.  It gets you into the national championship game without the #1 Target on your back (just ask USC and Oklahoma how that works out).

Alabama moves into #1.  Right now, the Tide deserves it with two road games against Top 10 teams (Clemson and Georgia were #9 and #3 at the time).  Nick Saban and company have two road games at Tennessee and LSU looming that will prove whether they sink or swim at the top.

Biggest mover of the week:  Oklahoma State.  Mike Gundy is a MAN!  He's 41 and has the Cowboys in my Top 10 this week after a landmark win over Mizzou.  The Tigers had a chance to move into National Title contention, but blew it!

Look who's back in contention.  The usual suspects.  USC, Georgia and Florida are all back within striking distance of the title game.

Finally, how about Joe Pa.  The resurrection continues in Happy Valley.  The Nittany Lions are at #3 this week.  Could they send the legendary coach out with a championship?  They're partying like its 1986 at Penn State.

Until next time, keep living the dream.... Jesse Kurtz, KKTV Sports Anchor
