There is an old saying in sports... "If it works, you're a hero.  If it doesn't, you're a goat."  May believe this applies to Mike Shanahan's decision to go for a two-point conversion, and a win against the Chargers.  I couldn't disagree more.  Either way, Shanahan is a hero.

The decision took guts, but it rallied his team.  The Broncos will now plow through a wall for Shanahan this season because he had the faith to put his name on the line for them.  Shanahan's display of confidence instantly put some swagger back in the Broncos that had been missing since a 2006 playoff win over the New England Patriots.  They are united as a team.  United, under the direction of a two-time Super Bowl winning coach.  All of which would have been accomplished even if the pass from Cutler to Royal falls incomplete.  It was a simple, yet gutsy, display of leadership that could go a long way in making the Broncos relevant come January.  Confidence is a very powerful thing in sports.  And power leads to championships.

Sure, if the decision hadn't led to a win on Sunday Shanahan would have been second-guessed by the Media.  But really, our opinion doesn't matter one bit.  Not on the road to the Super Bowl.  All that matters is the feeling in that locker room and as Andre Hall said yesterday, "Coach has got it going on right now."
