(JESSE KURTZ) Wind Can Be Your Training Partner

I have come in contact with my chief enemy in this new biking venture... WIND! Wow does it make training hard and annoying! But I wanted to pass along some tips on how to deal with the wind while your're on the bike.

I'm nearly three months into my training for the Tour de Cure and I am happy to report that I have broken through a few barriers (small milestones in my mind).

The coaches at Carmichael raised my Lactic Threshold numbers!... Which basically means they had to make the program harder because the intitial "program" I was on has become too easy.  I was soooo excited!  That was until I got on the bike that day and realized I was starting from ground zero again with really hard workouts.  But that's how you get better, right?

I have come in contact with my chief enemy in this new biking venture... WIND!  Wow does it make training hard and annoying!  Seems as though every time I go outside to ride these days, the wind is whipping.  A few times it deterred me from getting on my bike and going for a ride.   However, I am starting to change my attitude about the wind.  I recently came across a blog written by Chris Carmichael which gives tips for riding in the wind.  I encourage you to check it out.  It is a great read if you are training for the Tour de Cure!

I will keep you updated on my progress right here on this blog. I'd love to have you ride with me in the Tour de Cure to help raise money for the American Diabetes Association. If you sign up on my team (KKTV Sports), the ADA will waive the $15.00 registration fee (code: KKTV).  You can sign up for any of the three races as a member of the KKTV Sports team. If riding is not your cup of tea, and you still want to help, I would love for you to sponsor me with a donation to the ADA! Together we can make a difference.

You can sign up for my team, or sponsor my ride by logging onto http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR?pg=personal&fr_id=7690&px=6494069.

If you have any questions, please email me at jkurtz@kktv.com

See ya on the road!
