Weekend Food Confessions - (Stacia Naquin)

For me, being healthy is all about balance. But the weekends present a bigger challenge to maintain that balance. Here's my confession as I start the work week:

It’s time to get back on track. I went a little crazy over the weekend, eating whatever I wanted. And I gotta be honest – I’m feeling it this morning.

From the grilled cheese and fries on Friday night, the cheesecake with my co-workers at the Colorado Broadcasters Association dinner Saturday night and then the McDonald’s for breakfast, Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch, followed by my buttered popcorn and chocolate-covered macadamia nut dinner yesterday… it’s no wonder I feel like a slug.

It’s not that I feel like I failed or that I ruined all my progress. On the contrary. In my mind, there’s no shame in treating yourself… as long as that’s the exception and not the rule. And it kind of became the rule this weekend.

But here’s my thought on that. One weekend of healthy eating doesn’t make me healthy. So one weekend of unhealthy eating doesn’t make me UNhealthy.

I ate a good breakfast today. I came to work with good, healthy snacks. I’m back on track already! To me, that’s the real success.

I’m not going to miss out on fun times with my friends, birthday cake and barbeques just to maintain an all clean diet. That’s not sustainable for me. So, I’m still working on striking a good balance of healthy eating and some treats on the weekend. But as long as I’m ready and willing to get back on track to start the week… I’m making progress already!
