Are you ready to Rise and Shrine? I think I am! (emphasis on the think). This Saturday marks the 4th annual Run to the Shrine 5K/10K at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.
It also marks my 2nd attempt at the race. I definitely don’t plan to win it haha but I do have some goals. Last year, it became more of the Hike To The Shrine for me. So I’m ready to beat my time last year!!
I finished the 5K in 47 minutes in 2011. I was hoping for 45. But I got a stitch in my side in the first 5 minutes. And it wouldn’t quit. This year, I’m looking beyond that stitch and I’m ready to really prove to myself that I can run to that shrine!!
I’ve got some of my buddies who will be there to inspire – my friend Jennifer (who is a true runner and also ran with me last year too), my friend Torie (who is hard core and running the 10K), morning pal and co-worker Branden Borremans (who is just an all-around athlete) and my good friend Diana Dreman, Miss Colorado 2011 (she represented Colorado at Miss America, so obviously the girl knows about competition). With company like that – how could I not be amped?
But I’m also really looking forward to the amazing views you get when you run to the shrine. It’s probably the prettiest run I’ve ever been on. And I’m just doing the 5K! The 10K will be taking folks from the Broadmoor and up through the zoo and back to the zoo’s main gate.
I also can’t forget to mention my other very good friend who will be there too… Chobe the tortoise, the honorary Grand Marshal of the race! Here we are bonding during Chobe’s recent visit to KKTV
If Chobe the tortoise can be the face of a race like this, then I figure I'm in good company.
So there’s lots to get pumped about as we enter the final countdown to the race! I hope to see you there, as we (hopefully) RUN to the Shrine… not hike.
