It’s almost April. I know… crazy, right? Where is 2012 going?! That’s why NOW is the time to check in on those New Year’s resolutions you made at the beginning of the year and see how you’re doing.
“The 12 week bench mark is great to see if you have developed healthy habits, and to see what changes need to be made,” says Jerod Langness with Fitness Origin.
The best part about this check-up? It doesn’t matter if you’ve kept your resolutions or not.
If you haven’t… ask yourself why not. Was it too much at once? Were your goals virtually unattainable? Did you just give up? You can reassess and adjust. Resolve to make your fitness goals work for you and your schedule!
If you HAVE kept up with your resolutions… this next phase is crucial. And here’s why: “A healthy fitness program must change,” says Jerod. “Our bodies are amazing in the way that they adapt to change. You may see results at a faster pace at first, but then slow down after a few weeks. That often can be because your body has adapted to the changes you have made.”
So now is the time to take your goals to the next level! You don’t want to hit a plateau.
And Jerod also reminds us that it’s more than just the number of minutes or hours you’re spending in the gym. It’s also about the fuel you’re putting in your body. You can’t forget about that! “As you reach goals, you have to modify nutrition to accommodate who you have become and determine the correct plan to reach your next short term goal,” he says.
Another really important point to this? It’s not too late. You don’t need January to make a positive difference in your health. Tomorrow is another day. It’s a new beginning. As our morning traffic guru James Brown says, “Make it count!”
“Make a commitment now to be disciplined for the next 12 weeks,” says Jerod. “84 days of staying on course. You won't regret giving it your best.”
