What is it about this time of year that makes me want to eat, eat and eat some more. Maybe it’s the cold weather – I’m packing on extra padding for winter like a bear! Maybe it’s the big sweaters - I can hide the extra padding under said sweater! Or it could just be the extra tasty warm food – chicken pot pies, pasta, and pending Thanksgiving dinner. (Truly, this list could go on and on.)
Why are salads no longer enough when it gets cold? For some reason, all I want now are yummy cooked meals that have steam rising from them. Forget fresh fruits and veggies.
I’m still working out. But it’s time to get the eating under control, because I won’t see ANY results from my tough workouts if I’m eating like a soon-to-be-hibernating bear. Let’s be honest. I may want to curl up somewhere warm and sleep for the next five months. But that’s not going to happen. Unfortunately.
So, I’ve decided to re-dedicate myself to being healthy – in getting myself off the couch AND eating the kind of food my body needs. Who wants to wait until the New Year? If I can get focused now, I’ll have the healthiest START to the New Year I’ve ever had.
Don’t think that means that I’ll be skipping out on my favorite holiday treats – hello! Grandma’s Christmas cookies! I just don’t need to treat every day like its Thanksgiving. I’ll save that for actual Thanksgiving – that way it will be a special treat!
But I’m going to need some help. I need to be held accountable! So I plan to tell my closest peeps that I need to be kept in line. Am I going for a second handful of M&Ms?? Swat the hand!! Am I choosing ANOTHER day inside watching movies instead of working out?? Yank me off the couch!!
I might whine a little (or be grouchy like a bear who would rather be hibernating). But I’ll be grateful for the tough love. And so will my waistline.
Come on! Let’s do this together!!! Then we’ll already BE healthy as we ring in 2012, instead of making that our New Year’s resolution. Let’s do it!!
