Random Calorie Burn - Dog Park/Baths (Stacia Naquin)

Don't feel like hitting the gym? I didn't yesterday. So this is what I did instead. And I still burned some calories!

Hitting the treadmill isn’t the only way to burn calories. Our bodies were made for this! We burn calories when we sleep! (Not a lot… but some)
So here’s a new series we’re going to feature in this blog for the days you don’t feel like going to the gym. It’s called Random Calorie Burn. We’re going to focus on all the stuff that burns calories, without you even realizing it.
Today, I want to feature a random burn involving two of my favorite family members… my dogs, Charley and Payton. Technically, they’re German Shepherds. But really, they’re my kids.
And I’ll be honest. My kids were starting to stink like dogs. So that means it was time for a bath. But why just give them a bath? They like to run and play and get dirty. So I figured I’d give them a chance to do that first… and then I’d get them clean.
So, our first stop was the dog park. Since it is winter and dry, the Rampart dog park is mostly dirt. Perfect for two dogs about to get a bath. We ran all over the place. I threw the tennis balls for them. We ran some more. We checked out the other dogs. After more than 30 minutes of running around, the pups were plenty tuckered out.
Time to get clean!
We drove straight to a dog wash place (because I don’t really prefer to turn my bathroom into a dog parlor). But I don’t mind washing the dogs myself, so I got to work! I scrubbed them both clean! There was fur everywhere. I definitely broke a sweat. Then after they were washed, I took turns at the drying station with each of them. We were there for about 45 minutes.
So how many calories did I burn at the dog park and then giving dog baths??? ((drum roll please…)) 400! Not bad at all!! (btw – I know my calorie burn from wearing my Bodybugg) Not only did I get a decent burn, I also knocked some stuff off of my to-do list. AND my dogs smell soooooo much better.
Was it a tough workout? No. It wasn’t really a workout. And some days that’s what you need to do, so you don’t get bored with your fitness routine. The dogs and I were active and had a good time. Well, maybe they didn’t have a good time ALL afternoon, as evidenced by the pic below.
