Post Thanksgiving Downfall - (Stacia Naquin)

Overindulge this Thanksgiving? Yeah. Me too. But I've got a plan to fight my traditional post turkey downfall.

It’s good to be thankful all year long. But there’s a reason we only celebrate Thanksgiving once a year. It’s because of all the delicious, calorie-laden foods we get to indulge in. And we get to do it for about four days straight. Obviously, you have Thanksgiving proper and then you enjoy a few days of leftover turkey, pumpkin pie, stuffing, green-bean casserole, mashed potatoes, rolls – what else did I miss? And I don’t know about you, but on Thanksgiving, I’m not trying to eat the “lite” version of any of it. Give me the full fat family recipe deliciousness that makes the holiday so special. Here’s a look at some of the spread in our house.
I’m hungry all over again just looking at it. So yummy! And now I have to fight the urge to go calorie-crazy everyday between now and New Years. Obviously I’ll have some kind of “try to get healthier” resolution just a few weeks from now. So why bother being good until then? Plus I’ll be faced with temptation at every turn. Sweets are my weakness. And the holiday season is full of them at the grocery store, parties and well-meaning home-made gifts.
Oh Santa, I want to be good. But all those treats sure do make it difficult. Obviously - no one makes Christmas cookies like my Grandma… I mean, look at these things! I can’t fight tastiness like this!
So here’s my plan. And let me be clear about this. I do NOT plan to deprive myself of the yumminess of the season. (I WILL fill my plate with Christmas cookies.) But on random days like today – it’s a Monday – I’m going to eat well.  This is my last stand to wrap up 2011 on a healthy note. I’ve said it in previous blogs that it’s my goal to stay on a healthy path through the end of the year, instead of waiting for 2012. And now that Thanksgiving has passed and I’ve admittedly WAY over-indulged… I’m ready to get back on track today. And I’ll try to do the same tomorrow and the day after that.
In fact right now, I’m eating a handful of almonds and pear for a snack. Santa, I hope you’re watching this, because this girl is REALLY trying to be good.
