I don't know why. But this happens to me every summer. I slack off from my workout routine... just when I should be kicking things into high gear! Has this ever happened to you?
Of course, I could blame it on a lot of things.. mainly my work schedule. I'm going in even earlier. My alarm now goes off at 1am, instead of 2:30am. It's only an hour-and-a-half. But, believe me, it makes a difference. So, when I get off work now at 10am... I'm exhausted! I'd rather take a nap than go to the gym!
But that doesn't change the fact that I know working out would give me more energy, help me sleep better and give me another reason to fuel my body with the things it needs. (What, you say?! Cheetos are NOT a major food group??)
There are a few reasons why I think this my mid-summer slump is extra weird.
A. I start off strong! January brings the mind/drive I need to take my workouts to the next level. I eat well. I’m all pumped up. I’m on a roll! Then… I lose it. For some reason, I can’t hold on to that fire for longer than six-ish months. I get to mid-June and suddenly lose my drive to work out.
B. It’s gorgeous out! I should be running all over the place, taking in the sunshine and being active. Every time I’m in the car, I drive by 4 or 5 people getting their run on… through the neighborhood, in a local park. I’ve been waiting ALL WINTER for things to warm up! So why am I flaking?
C. Summer fruits/veggies – this time of year brings out all the best fruits, especially one of my favorite foods of all time… watermelon! I could eat it all day, every day and never get sick of it. So am I not taking advantage of the fact that my favoritest fruit is waiting for me at the front of the produce section whenever I hit the grocery store?
As you can see… it’s all a mystery to me. I really would love to know if this happens to anyone else.
At this point, I’ve vowed not to wait until January to pick up the pace again. I’ve got to get my rear in gear! There’s still plenty of summer left for me to get it right/tight.
That’s my plan. But I’ll keep ya posted…
