Gingerbread men, pumpkin pie, Grandma’s famous Christmas cookies… some of my favorite treats only make an appearance once a year this time of year!!! And I’ve never stopped to ask my Grandma the fat gram content of her cookies. So I don’t plan to this year either!
Here’s my thought. It’s the holidays. And no matter what/why you celebrate… what’s the point of celebrating without some Christmas treats???
I remember being in high school and visiting a friend’s house around Christmas. There were lots of family members over. And everyone was having a wonderful time… except Aunt Sally* (*name has been changed to protect the Grinch-mas party). Aunt Sally was getting a jump-start on her New Year’s resolution to lose weight. So, instead of indulging in pie and cookies with the rest of us, she was “enjoying” raisins mixed into cool-whip. That’s right… raisins and cool-whip. For Christmas. Come on!! Like I said I was in high school. And I knew even THEN that holiday dieting was not going to be for me.
No fun!!!
So I’m doing my best to be good now. That way – when Grandma sends me my favorite Christmas cookies, I can eat every one of them!!! Hey – it’s Christmas! I’m going to enjoy ALL of it… from the lights, to the family… to the food.
Makes me hungry just thinking about it...
