I did it! I ordered the Insanity workout videos. Here's how it's going so far... yowza!

 

I don’t know about you. But I love infomercials. I know. It’s kind of sad. But I do! I especially love fitness infomercials.  They always make me want to work out. But I’ve never worked up the nerve to order anything… that is until two weeks ago. I ordered Insanity.
What is Insanity you ask? For those who haven’t seen the infomercial, it is best described as a series of exercise videos that promise to increase your strength, endurance and overall health.  It’s a 60-day program that uses intense interval training and plyometrics to whip you into shape. We’re talking suicides, basketball/football drills, cracked-out push-ups and crazy lunges/squats. Basically… it’s Insanity.
Here’s what I know.  I’m no expert. I’m just trying to take my workouts to the next level. And from what I’ve experienced so far… uh… wow.
I consider myself to be a fairly fit person. I workout. I’m not afraid of the weight room. I can run. But, I seriously questioned my level of fitness after the very first DVD!! It’s a “Fit Test.” It basically gives you 8 exercises. And you count how many reps you can do in one minute. I’m kind of embarrassed to say… I couldn’t even do the 8th exercise. I seriously thought I was going to be sick. It’s just that intense.
Despite my near-ralph experience, I charged right into the workout the next day and the day after that and so on. And you know what? I’m loving it. This is totally my kind of workout!!! Is it hard? Uh, yeah. It’s kicking my butt. But in the best possible way.
I think part of what’s keeping me going is the man in charge… Shaun T. He’s basically your personal trainer, encouraging you to “Dig Deeper.”  He does a really good job of keeping the energy of the video up and making me feel like I’m on the right track, even if I have to rest instead of completing my reps. I’m still in it!!!
Since the Fit Test, the DVDs change up every day, but have basically followed this pattern: 10-minute warm-up, 5 minute stretch, 15-20 minute workout, 3 minute cool down. 40-ish minutes total. Not bad, right? And it goes by pretty fast. (Thank goodness!!!) And you rest on the 7th day.
I’ve been sore from these workouts, but not too bad. It started in my calf muscles. Then it was my abs. Then it was my legs. And right now, I’m feeling it in my shoulders. So I guess you could say I’m getting a well-rounded workout! haha
A warning for anyone who has given this program some thought… you can’t be afraid to sweat. I’m serious. This video is designed to make the sweat pour starting during your warm-up. It’s called Insanity for a reason!!!
I’m now proudly in the middle of week 2 of the program and feeling stronger already. I’ll keep you posted on how things are going. I have my 2nd Fit Test coming up. And I plan to complete as many reps as I can of EVERY exercise… without getting sick. It’s a good goal, right?
