How Are You Doing? - (Stacia Naquin)

If you resolved to make 2011 your healthiest year yet, it's time to ask yourself this question!

I’m kind of an impatient person. I don’t like to wait. So you won’t catch me at the gym at 5:30pm when everyone has just arrived fresh from work. Nope. Too crowded for my taste. I do go when I get off of work. But for me, that’s around 1pm. Usually, I can count on the gym to be pretty empty around that time. I can get in, use whatever machines I want, and get out. But I took note last week that there were quite a few more people on the treadmill, compared to normal. That makes me think folks are sticking with their New Years resolutions. That’s great!!
So, it’s time to ask the question. How are you doing with your resolution? Are you sticking with it? Do you need to rededicate yourself? Do you need to make a few tweaks? Now is the time to ask! We’re in the 5th week of the year and it’s time to evaluate your resolution to make sure it’s right for you.
We all start the year with great intentions for our health. Maybe you decided to lose some weight. Maybe you decided to tone up. Maybe you’re shooting for a half-marathon like many of my friends are. How are you doing with it?
Jerod Langness, Master Trainer with 24 Hour Fitness, says it’s an important question to ask. “Now is the time to see if your choices were the right ones,” he said. “Assessing your progress is crucial in ensuring the creation of healthy habits.”
He actually checks on the progress of his clients every two weeks. Here’s why:
1.      To see improvement
2.      To give the client knowledge of why we are training in the current format
3.      To check for muscle tightness or weakness
4.      To watch for body composition changes
5.      To know if it is time to change workout styles
6.      To know where that client's weaknesses may be (workout schedule, nutrition, stretching, supplementation, etc.)
If you don’t have a trainer, take a cue from Jerod and give your goals a fair assessment. How are they working for you? If you took on too much and burned yourself out, tweak your goals and get right back on track! If you don’t feel challenged, maybe it’s time to get tougher on yourself in the gym!
If your goal really is to get healthier, now's the time to make those changes, so 2011 is your healthiest year yet!
"The bottom line comes down to making long lasting changes that will carry over for years to come (healthy habits),” said Jerod. “It's not easy, but you're worth it!”
