CrossFit SoCo - Week 2 - (Stacia Naquin)

My 2nd week at CrossFit SoCo has brought some new realizations about my workouts. But there are also some reasons to celebrate. Here's what you could be learning right along with me!

It was somewhere around my 79th squat in a row (with a PVC pipe stretched across my shoulders) that I realized... wow. Form is important. Why else would my coaches have me practicing the same move over and over and over?  I probably need to get it right. That was my big revelation during my first week of workouts at CrossFit SoCo.

What a difference a week makes! My form may not be perfect. But I am doing a lot better! (I can tell by the fist bumps from my coaches!) And I'm feeling more confident! I can now officially join my fellow CrossFitters in more challenging moves - squats with a weighted bar, instead of a plastic pipe!  This may seem like a small victory to you. But it's HUGE to me. And I feel like my coaches share that victory along with me.

I have been taking part in the workouts at CrossFit SoCo for two weeks. And I learn something new every single day. I participate in the group class at 11:30am and get to learn from CrossFit coaches who, yes, want to challenge me, but they also want to make sure I'm challenged using the right form. And this is important to add, because if you’ve ever heard about CrossFit… or seen videos like the one below, you might be intimidated.

I mean look at that stuff! Woah!! But I’m here to tell you – no one is pushing you into the deep end when you walk in the door. There’s a lot of evaluation of your fitness level and your form throughout the workout. And there’s a move that can be adapted for EVERY fitness level. I’ve experienced that first hand. (Hello! Still can’t do a pull-up!) The CrossFit coaches are always there with a way to make it work and a fist bump for doing your best.

The other big revelation for me in this second week is that, not only am I doing better with my form, I’m finally starting to remember the moves. Hey – I didn’t need anyone to explain what a thruster was this week! Suh-weet! Can I properly explain it here in this blog? No I can’t. But I can hold my own when I see it on the white-board for today’s workout.

If you want to know what a thruster is and the proper form to make it happen (and other oddly-named moves), I highly recommend you join me down at CrossFit SoCo. Remember – the coaches are going to make sure you know how to get it right. And they’ve got a fist bump for you when you do.

And P.S. - a HUGE thanks to fellow CrossFitter, Eric Chin, for these pics and helping me document this crazy tough journey!
