CrossFit SoCo - Week 1 - (Stacia Naquin)

I'm trying a new kind of workout for the next month - CrossFit! It's so tough. But it's making ME tough(er). Here's what things have been like for my first week.

 

If you see me out and about… and I look like I’m not getting around so good… it’s probably because I just finished working out. I’m trying something new – CrossFit! And muscle groups I didn’t even know I HAD are sore (in a good way). I am really loving this workout!!!
You’ve probably heard of Cross Fit. It’s all about strength and conditioning. There are actually about a dozen different CrossFit gyms in Colorado Springs. I’m checking out CrossFit SoCo. It’s at 110 W. Las Vegas Street.
Here’s the inside of the gym.
It looks like a warehouse. But don’t let that fool you. This is a full on gym and the folks at this place will work you harder than you even knew you could work.  And they do it everyday.
That’s because the workout is different every time you go. Here are some pics of a workout that involved some kettle bell moves, with my workout wingman, Torie, demonstrating.
I’ve always like strength training. I’ve worked with half a dozen personal trainers over the years. I’m definitely not afraid of the weight room! But the workouts here at CrossFit SoCo are different. I’m doing the group workout. (even though I’m not as advanced as some of the other cross-fitters). The coaches always find ways to make the workout apply, no matter what your fitness level. Here’s another piece of a workout.
A lot of what we’ve focused on in this first week is my form. I need to be able to do a dead-lift (for example) with the proper form, so I get the maximum benefit from the move (and don’t injure myself).  Working on your form can be tedious. But I it’s definitely important! And it’s just part of the process when it comes to this kind of workout.
And even though I’m not yet able to do everything the other cross-fitters do (hello! Pull-ups!), I’m still sweating up a storm and super sore the next day (sore, as in – man, that was a good workout). And I’m excited about getting better at these workouts.
I’m going to give it my ALL and I’ll be blogging about it here for the next month. So – seriously – if you see me momentarily wincing in pain while I’m laughing or just sitting down… that’s the sit-ups talking… or the squats… or the dead-lifts. But make no mistake – that’s the look of a chick who is getting stronger by the day! Look out world!
