Just when I planned to get back on track with healthier living... another wrinkle in my carefully ironed-out plans.
My schedule changed at work. Big time. I'm now coming in 3 hours earlier to help write the morning show. So for me, that means I'm here in the newsroom now at 1am. It's slightly exhausting... rewarding, but exhausting.
As soon as I found out things would be changing, I immediately thought - my eating is going to get out of control!!!
I've reported tons of news stories about how people eat more junk (and just eat more in general) when they're tired. With my tendency to eat junk anyway... I just knew I was in trouble. I'll be munching all night long!
But after the first week on my new schedule, I'm happy to report, I haven't gained ten pounds like I thought I would! haha My eating hasn’t been that bad. I’m trying to plan ahead and bring my snacks. That way I won’t be tempted to hit the vending machine… not every day, anyway. I’m also trying to make sure I eat a good blend of protein/carbs every couple of hours. That’s not only good to keep me away from the junk, but it also helps to keep my energy up. And believe me – I need all the help I can get!
Then there’s the other important element of a healthy lifestyle… exercise. I’m not gonna lie – I’m tired. And after a long, overnight shift in the newsroom, my bed looks pretty darn inviting. But I have to fight that! So, I have put forth a SIGNIFICANT amount of self discipline towards getting to the gym. I’ve been twice this week and I plan to go again today! Three times in a work week? Not bad at all!
I just have to stay focused and remind myself of how much better I feel when I workout and eat right… no matter what my schedule is like.
